Alumni Return for Athletic Golf Outings
Many alumni gathered for the athletic golf tournaments this spring, including the Wesley Football Golf Outing on May 6 and the Fourth Annual Wolverine Basketball Spring Golf Classic on May 26. In all, close to 100 Wesley graduates came out to golf in support of Wesley’s athletic programs, along with many community members and friends of the College.
Alumni football players joined Wesley staff and friends for a day on the fairways on May 6 at Jonathan's Landing Golf Course in Magnolia, Del. More than 50 alumni in attendance posed for a group photo before the shotgun start. Following the round of golf, participants enjoyed a buffet dinner and award ceremony, with prizes awarded for closest to the pin, longest drive and trophies for the top three foursomes as well as the last place finishers. Various raffle prizes were also given out.
Head Coach Mike Drass and his staff hosted this annual event as a fundraiser for their program, which ranked third in the nation in Division III last season. At the event, they were proud to display their recent NCAA South Region Championship trophy Wolverines and show clips of previous games and interviews with players and coaches from seasons dating back to the 1990s to the present. The date for next year's Wesley Football Golf Outing has been set for Friday, May 4, 2012.
Head Coach Jerry Kobasa hosted his Fourth Annual Wolverine Spring Golf Classic on May 26 to raise funds for men's basketball. Alumni, friends and sponsors who participated had a great day of golf at Jonathan's Landing, followed by a post-round buffet. A silent auction and raffle was also part of the event, featuring an impressive display of professional sports memorabilia and related items. Many prizes and gifts were distributed to participants before and after golfing, and all proceeds of the event supported Wolverine basketball.
Kobasa said, "The Wesley College basketball staff and players would like to thank all the alumni, former basketball players and the Dover community for making this year’s golf tournament at Jonathan’s Landing a very big success. We hope to keep growing our Wesley College basketball family and all your support has helped contribute to the success of our program. Mark your calendars for the 2012 golf tournament which will be on May 24. We hope to see you this fall and winter in the Jim and Shirley Wentworth Gymnasium cheering on the Wolverines."
