President Johnston hosts Golden Graduates
A beautiful spring afternoon over Dover Days weekend in Delaware’s capital city was a perfect time for graduates of Wesley Junior College to reunite and reminisce with one another. The College’s “Golden Graduates” – alumni from the class of 1960 and all classes prior – were invited to a luncheon on Sunday, May 2 at President William N. Johnston’s home, the historic Annie Jump Cannon House. Coinciding with Wesley Junior College’s May Day festivities, early May was historically a special time in Dover and on campus. As part of Sunday’s event, a group of the alumni also attended the local Dover Days concert featuring the Dover Symphony and Delaware Choral Society immediately following the luncheon.
The alumni in attendance spanned more than a decade of Wesley class years. A handful of graduates were celebrating special class anniversaries, including a 50th as well as a significant 65th anniversary for several alumna from the Class of ’45. The participants enjoyed the opportunity to visit and share memories with their classmates over lunch. Many remarked on the strong educational roots their Wesley degree provided and the positive impact on their lives. They also had the opportunity to get caught up on current Wesley news and details of the College’s Master Plan by President Johnston and Vice President for Institutional Advancement Chris Wood. President Johnston expressed his gratitude to the “Golden Grads” for their continued involvement in the life of the College.
As alumni bid their farewells after the event, many made plans to reunite again at the next “Golden Grads” gathering. A brunch is scheduled for Sunday, October 17 over Homecoming Weekend, during which the Class of 1960 will be officially honored as they commemorate their Golden Anniversary. Details on the 2010 Homecoming schedule and this particular event will be posted as they become available on
