Nursing Students Elected to Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society
The following were elected to membership in the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, as a nursing student through Tau Beta Chapter at Wesley College on April 18.
Graduate students: Joann Abbott, Kerri Adams, Kay Cook, Deborah DeGrosa, Dorothy Eyong, Christopher Foard, Susan Gross, Jennifer Heaney, Denise Larson, Jessica Mankow, Tanya Marandola, Beverly Mattox, Audrey Mayan, Joscelyn McManus, Jerry Mench, Jeanette Panunto, Angela Patchell, Cristal Pergerson, Alexandra Siegel-Wazater, Elizabeth Sigman, Dyshekia Strawberry, Mercedes Tobin, Elaine Toolsie-Johnson and Lynn Wilson.

The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, is one of the largest international nursing organizations. It works to foster, develop and connect nurse scholars and leaders worldwide to improve health care. The honor society promotes nursing excellence through its initiatives in research, leadership, an electronic library, programming and publications, and through development and distribution of nursing knowledge for use in practice.
Membership to the honor society is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership and foster high professional standards. In order to qualify for membership, the undergraduate student must have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, be in the upper 35 percent of his/her graduating class, have completed at least one-half of the nursing curriculum and meet the expectation of academic integrity. Graduate students are required to meet the criteria for the graduate category of membership.
Sigma Theta Tau International is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of people worldwide through leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research. Founded in 1922, the Honor Society currently has 134,000 active members in more than 90 countries. Members include practicing nurses, instructors, researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs and others. The Society's 463 chapters are located at 571 institutions of higher education throughout the United States, as well as in Australia, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Malawi, Mexico, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Swaziland, Sweden, Taiwan, Tanzania and Wales.
