<< BackAlumna Makes Her Mark in Communications Industry
Delaware-native and Wesley alumna Deborah Kay Pace '05 is President and CEO of BizCom LLC and has been a freelance journalist with The Mergermarket Group and Debtwire, divisions of London-based Financial Times Group, for more than four years. She has now paired her writing skills with nearly two decades of writing, editing, marketing, public relations, radio and television broadcasting, and other communications experience to form BizCom LLC. The company, which is a new full-service professional business communications firm, has an eye for good copy – and a hand for it too.
“I’ve raised some eyebrows by venturing into business ownership in this type of economic market, but with corporations cutting back creative budgets and trimming costs across the board, there’s a real need for affordable and effective business communication services,” said Pace. “The great thing about BizCom LLC is that we know the local market and can work within any budget.”
Pace hit the ground running in Mid-December and is building up her client list by bringing some of her ‘local celebrity’ flair to BizCom LLC’s copywriting and marketing products. As a former WILM and WDEL morning radio news anchor and reporter, Pace said she learned to write ‘ear catching’ clear, concise copy, which has won national awards. Pace also spent some time honing her skills with other local businesses, including The News Journal, United Way of Delaware, Blood Bank of Delmarva, The American Cancer Society, Shipley Associates, Inc., and WXCY.
“There are so many aspects of communications, and I love them all. I guess you can see, it was difficult for me to pick just one aspect of the industry,” Pace said with a smile. “With BizCom LLC, I am pooling all of my experience together to offer clients a complete package. Every day, I feel like a kid in a candy store – getting to work on TV infomercials, press releases, logo and newsletter designs, publicity and branding campaigns, website copy and design, and so much more,” she added.
In addition to her local experience, Pace spent time at The Wall Street Journal Radio Network in Princeton, New Jersey, Texas Radio Network and KRLD radio in Dallas, at The Villages News Network television station in central Florida, and as a U.S. Navy Journalist. Pace is also an editor at EditAvenue.com and EditFast.com and has built and runs her own website www.bizcomllc.com. After acquiring a bachelor’s degree in communication management from Wilmington University, she received her MBA from Wesley College in 2005.
